Almost every day since 1979 we have gone out for breakfast, which he loves. We use to walk. Now we go in the car.I have a wheelchair carrier on the back of the car.It is very difficult to get him in and out of the car. This is the only time I take him out except for doctors appointments every three months or to visit our son in the next town.

We have lunch at 11 a.m. Then his pills and nap. I then log on to the PC. It is in the afternoon that the dyskinesia kicks in,usually one hour before and after the pills ( Sinemet CR). He can take no less because of more disability. We dropped all the other meds in 1994 because of the side effects. They were not working anyway. He is more comfortable on the couch.I can put pillows on each side of him as he thrashes around.

After early dinner and more pills , I take him downstairs in the elevator to the pool.I lock the wheelchair at the table on the patio while I swim for 10 minutes ( my therapy ). I wheel him back to the condo for his shower ( which he fights). Most times the nurse aide does this, if he will let her.

He decides when or if he wants to go to bed.He has finally accepted the diaper( loss of dignity). I think this is why he use to fight me at this time.I just let him be.

In the evening is when the "Sundowners " sets in.He is restless, trying to walk.He sees people and animals.( This can happen in the morning too.Today there was a dog in the car with us.) There is no longer violence. He has no idea where he is. I go along with this. Finally he decides he is going to bed. I lead him in the right direction. It is now 5:45 or 6:00 p.m. He is undressing in the hallway.

He sleeps well until around 3:00 am, when he needs to get to the bathroom.I used to try to get him up for this, but it became to hard. Now I wait, listening, until he goes back to sleep.

Today the nurse aide will be here.I will go to the Senior Center and sing, for them and for myself." Always" is my favorite song.I get teary- eyed and so does the audience.
